#2 – High-Pitched Noises – Squealing or squeaking noises could point to an issue with your brakes. If the noise only stops when you are applying pressure to your brakes – it is time to have them replaced. This noise is actually purposeful. There are bits of steel called brake wear indicators that come into contact with the rotor when not in use in order to let you know it is time for new ones.
#3 – Grinding Sounds – Grinding could be something easily remedied like stuck gravel and rocks, or it could be something serious like the sound of metal on metal. If it’s the latter, you could be wearing grooves into the brake rotor. You need to be sure to bring your vehicle in so your mechanics can ensure there isn’t an issue before you do more expensive damage.
#4 – Shaky Steering Wheel While Braking – If your steering wheel is shaking every time you apply the brakes, this could mean there is an issue with the rotor being uneven. The rotor is what the brake pad hits to stop the vehicle. If these are uneven, the braking mechanism won’t work properly and could potentially cause further damage.
